AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA | OFFICIAL 2019 PROGRAM | 73 AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA WOMEN’S RACE EMPOWERED WITH SRAM | WOMEN’S STAGE 3 STAGE 3 WOMEN SATURDAY, MAY 18 | SANTA CLARITA TO PASADENA DISTANCE 71.8 Miles | STAGE ELEVATION 7,502’ TERRAIN Rolling S tage 3 is proof that there is no rest for the weary. In fact, this final stage is anything but a tranquil parade to the finish. Following an unprecedented and harrowing uphill finish to the slopes of Mt. Baldy the day before, this journey from Santa Clarita to Pasadena passes through the rugged San Gabriel Moun- tains before making a final descent into the City of Roses and a finish at the icon- ic Rose Bowl. This is the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race empowered with SRAM’s first finish in Southern Cali- fornia, and Pasadena makes for the per- fect backdrop to crown a champion. With a route comprised of 72 miles over more than 8,000 feet of climbing and one QOM before plunging down to the San Gabriel Valley, spectators are sure to witness a thriller at the finish. Starting at Santa Clarita’s Valencia Town Center, the stage begins in earnest with a gradual uphill outing through the com- munity of Valencia. After only 15 miles, the peloton will have already climbed 1,500 feet. Past Acton, the peloton follows the Santa Clara River through Aliso Canyon and into the heart of the San Gabriel Mountains. Another 10 miles brings the race to the top of the day’s first QOM at the pass of Pacifico Mountain. The race continues on the Angeles Forest Hwy to conquer two more minor, albeit criti- cal climbs past Josephine Peak. For the racing peloton, much of the scenery will speed by on the 20-mile finishing de- scent. Despite a technical mountain drop into the Crescenta Valley and the city of La Cañada Flintridge, any breakaway will have a hard time staying away with such a long and fast finish awaiting at Pasade- na’s Rose Bowl.
